The Sagan Series - A Reassuring Fable
A beautiful segment from The Sagan Series of cosmic remixes. My thoughts:
Stare at the Earth for long enough, and its beauty would become more evident, and its place in the cosmos would become less mystical, but its purpose would remain unexplained.
As a species, among Earth’s many, uniquely aware of the worries and dangers that surround our existence, it is natural to seek solace in declaring ourselves a privileged and chosen creation. But when the universe is taken into account, there is no reason to think this is so.
As we continue to paint the unknown with the light of knowledge, we have the opportunity to define our own purpose. And in choosing that purpose, we need not turn to fables, but only to our own minds.
